Meet the Makers: Bill
Every once in a while, we all come across someone who truly has a way to fix just about anything. In our case, Bill has been the man for over 25 years.
Beyond being one of my friends and mentors, Bill truly embodies the ideal work ethic and grit that we seek in our team members. "Where there is a will, there is a way" which is pretty much Bill's attitude on a daily basis.
Bill has an extensive mechanical background, and he works on everything ranging from computer circuit boards to just about anything that needs wires to function. I get particularly excited when I get to learn about sewing machines from Bill. Not only does he repair them, but also, he has modified just about every sewing machine on the floor to serve a specific purpose. From building custom guides to swapping an entire head, he really can do it all. Keep in mind, these sewing machines are as old as 1900 (YES, 120 years ago), but mainly circa '60s and newer. When I was amazed one day at how vast his knowledge spanned, he told me his simple philosophy - read the manual. Now of course, to the average person, a manual would be overwhelming and seem like a foreign language, but with over 25 years of experience, I guess it comes a bit easier for Billy.
On a side note, Bill has a helluva taste in music - he has told me about his recent concerts he's attended, from TOOL to Motley Crue.
Thank God, truly, for Bill and his enthusiasm to help keep our factory rolling.
